Rehabilitation Center is engaged in the training and research of rehabilitation for the disabled children. It carries out potential development, rehabilitation training and assessment of the disabled children, training of rehabilitation professionals as well as technical guidance. The center boasts complete rehabilitation equipments and facilities with over 80 specialized technicians. Rehabilitation programs include physiotherapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), speech therapy (ST), cognition, special education, meridian balancing, meridian massage, fumigation and steaming method or bath with Chinese herbal medicine, external counterpulsation together with oxygen therapy, and medium frequency therapy. Our center was appointed as Cerebral Palsy Center of Shaanxi Rehabilitation Center for Disabled People by Shaanxi Disabled People Federation and has made energetic contributions to the rehabilitation of many cerebral palsy children.
Always putting patients first, our center has made 3 kinds of rehabilitation training tapes and CDs and worked out 5 sets of rehabilitation training exercise. This lays solid foundation in realizing the aim of "bringing rehabilitation home" and is widely welcomed by patients. Our center has trained more than 80 rehabilitation professionals from foreign hospitals. Further research in rehabilitation is carried out in our center and 5 dissertations were issued in national journals. Among them, Standardization Research in Clinical Application of External Counterpulsation to Treat Infantile External Hydrocephalus won Science & Technology Progress Award (Third Prize) of China Association of Chinese Medicine. External Counterpulsation Together With Oxygen Therapy to Treat External Hydrocephalus became one of National TCM Scientific Popularizing Programs in 2002 and 2005 appointed by State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
1.PT can improve motor function, inhibit abnormal postures, alleviate muscle tension and induce normal motor development. It mainly includes control of the head, support lifting training, turning over training, training in a sitting position, stretched position of knee and high climbing, training of standing, training of walking, coordination of gait training, control of infantile abnormal postures as well as morphia and correction of hands function.
2. OT is mainly used to train the fine movement of the hands and coordination movement between hands and eyes. It also improves motor coordination and flexibility of the upper limbs, endurance of muscular movement as well as adjustment and control of the upper limbs' movement. It serves to improve, enhance or recover the patient's ability in living and studying.
3. ST is to promote speech development of diseased infants so that they may make full use of language signals to communicate. It is a rehabilitation method to bring language ability into full play. It often includes training of respiration, relaxation, voice, oral cavity and articulation as well as inducing of phonation.
1. Acupuncture and Tuina Massage
Acupuncture can activated blood circulation, relieve stagnation and wake up mind. Common methods include scalp acupuncture, body acupuncture and electro acupuncture. Tuina massage can regulate yin and yang, circulate qi and blood in meridians, activated blood circulation and promote movement of joints.
2. Bath with Chinese Herbal Medicine
It works through the absorption, osmosis and excretion of the skin. The effective ingredients in the steam are directly absorbed by the skin and acupoints, participate in blood circulation. Therefore it destroys the previous pathologic reflex association to cure the disease.
3.Meridian Balancing
It is based on the theory of meridians and yin-yang, and combines with modern biological electronic motion balance theory. It directly applies a unidirectional high-power impulse of ultrahigh voltage and ultralow frequency on the diseased meridians of the human body and activates biological electronics to restore transmission along meridians and nerves. It improves the muscular movement mode of the paralyzed limb from associated reaction to solidarity reaction and finally to separated movement for the purpose of restoring the motor function of the limbs.
4. Meridian massage and balancing therapy is to give dynamic treatment one area after another according to the diseased area and corresponding parts by connecting massage and balancing machines. It can reduce muscle tension, relieve spasm and scar, increase muscle force and alleviate pain.
5. Acupoint injection and catgut embedding therapy are therapeutic methods with integration of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine. It is to inject medicine or embed catgut into the relevant acupoints to stimulate them for the purpose of treatment.
6.Small needle-knife has remarkable effect on reliving muscular spasm of children with cerebral palsy.
1. External Counterpulsation
Give routine oxygen uptake to the patients during treatment so as to improve the blood oxygen content in the heart and brain and promote brain cell metabolism. According to the theory of meridians and collaterals and stimulation of acupoints, add acupoints pressing device besides external counterpulsation to give a comprehensive treatment to cerebral palsy.
2.Brain function treatment machine is to induce and regulate the rhythm and level of brain electrical activity though the frequency change of special sound and light signal. Low frequency electrical impulse circulates among specific acupoints, increases brain blood supply and improves brain circulation.
3.Medium frequency and medicine icon-introduction therapy activates biological electronics though ultrasound and restores transmission along meridians and nerves. It is a method to send medicine into the body via skin or mucous membrane with the help of ultrasound.
4. (Whole course) Conductive education is a system including education and treatment. Its features are as follows. First, there is a combination of education and treatment together without missing either of them and it is most important to the normal growth of children. Second, there is a combination of treatment and looking after oneself. The diseased children may get treatment during looking after themselves and learn to look after themselves during treatment.
5. Sensory integration training can provide sensory information to patients, help develop central nervous system, inhibit and/or adjust sensory information and make sensory stimulation a more structural reaction. The final aim is to improve the ability to organize, learn, focus, coordinate and balance.
6. Rehabilitation assessment mainly includes Wechsler' Test, Social Adaptability Test, Adults Mental Retardation Test, Social Viability Measuring List on Infants-Junior Middle Students, Fine Motor Function Measurescale (FMFM), Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM), Gesell Developmental Schedules, Ability of Daily Living (ADL), Autism Rating Scale and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Behavior Assessment.
